After a month-long deliberation, it seems like Marvel and Sony have finally ceased their second thoughts on who will play the next Peter Parker in the "Spider-Man" reboot as it was recently reported that Asa Butterfield has been finally chosen to inherit Andrew Garfield's former role for the 2017 reboot. Meanwhile, actor Matthew McConaughey is desired to play Norman Osborn, also known as the Green Goblin.

The news came from Latino Review, which insistently claimed that Asa Butterfield has been finally chosen as the high school version of Peter Parker in the "Spider-Man" reboot.  The website confirmed the news already and revealed that Butterfield's management and Marvel are already in negotiations. Specifically, they are in the "formalities" process, which probably means the contract; the official announcement will follow shortly, according to the article.

It was previously reported that the selection has been narrowed down into five actors. With The Wrap's help, the names of the actors were revealed including Tom Holland (In the Heart of the Sea), Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Timothee Chalamet (Interstellar), Liam James (The Killing), and Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game). The revelation was shortly followed by Badass Digest's David Faraci stressing that the competition has been demoted into two:  Holland and Butterfield being the top two candidates bagging for the role.

However, with this report from Latino Review, it looks like the deal has been already closed and a confirmation is what fans only need. Likewise, Latino Review has been the first one to disclose the previous rumor that Butterfield may have already bagged the role and has been "Marvel's favorite since day one." If the reports hold a truthful foundation, Butterfield will still be pre-occupied for a Tim Burton-directed film "Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiars," which is based on the young adult novel from Ransom Riggs. It is slated to release next year and is ahead of the reboot.

Meanwhile, as casting details are slowly coming into focus, it was also reported that Matthew McConaughey has been considered by Marvel to play the arch-nemesis Norman Osborn or the Green Goblin. According to the sources from "That Hashtag Show," this offering to McConaughey is considered serious.

However, since no official word from Marvel has been disclosed, it's safe to say that it's just a rumor. Though, this rumor somewhat holds a sliver of truth as the A-list actor himself revealed to Variety that he's read some scripts for Marvel and DC. Some reports also state that the "Interstellar" actor would give the "Spider-Man" reboot a boost.

The villain Green Goblin was already portrayed by famed actors such as Willem Dafoe in 2002's "Spider-Man" and Chris Cooper in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" last year. Before the younger Spider-Man's solo film in 2017, it is also believed that he will initially make an appearance to next year's "Captain America: Civil War."

In spite of this, no official word has been released by both Marvel and Sony, or the actors themselves. For now, do you want Asa Butterfield to be the next Spider-Man? Do you give your affirmation, or denunciation? Share them in below!
