Deutsche Telekom said that the U.S. Department of Justice made no objection to the merger between MetroPCS Communications and its business unit T-Mobile USA before a regulatory deadline.

The group said that there is still no objection from the DOJ while in the waiting period required by the U.S. antitrust laws.

The German telecommunications company said that the merger with MetroPCS will help solve scale issues in its T-Mobile business.

The German telecommunications company added that the merger is yet to be approved by MetroPCS shareholders, the Committee on Foreign Investment and the Federal Communications Commission.

The deal would combine that fourth and the fight largest communications providers in the U.S., with 76% given to Deutsche Telekom.

Shareholders of MetroPCS are set to vote on the merger on April 12.
