The X-Files will once again lurch its way onto TV screens with paranormal mysteries and occasional bouts of extreme grossness. It's been confirmed that the series would return to Fox for six episodes, beginning on January 24, 2016. And already, this new crop of X-Files episodes is being talked about like a ratings dynamo- it's been rumored that the only reason Fox said yes to new X-Files episodes in the first place is because the network knew that bringing the show back would be a massive ratings boom and that X-Files fans would flock to the network en masse.

If that's the case, and next year's X-Files revival brings a mass audience and renewed interest in Mulder, Scully and several horrifying alien species.. is there anything stopping Fox from putting together another X-Files movie? X-Files: I Want to Believe, the last X-Files movie, was hit with a double whammy of poor reviews and middling box-office dollars. The film premiered at number four on its opening weekend and was shrugged off by critics- with several suggesting that the powerhouse of The Dark Knight (in theaters at the same time) had muscled I Want to Believe out from any potential successes. Depending on how well the new series does, it might be possible that Fox would try its hand at besting I Want to Believe's poor performance.

David Duchovny recent gabbed about the X-Files revival, confirming what everyone hoped- the new episodes will be just as bizarre as the originals.

"It's going to be strange and fun," the actor gushed. "Thankfully, Gillian [Anderson] will be there, and we'll both be in positions of like, 'Are we really here doing this again? Are we really saying those words again?' At least we'll have each other." Fans will be waiting quite a while until the new X-Files episodes air next year, but at least the original cast will be waiting for them next January.
