Just when you thought he has played myriad roles, along comes news that MIchael Fassbender is joining the cast of Fifty Shades Darker. For someone who has tackled lots of challenging roles in films like  12 Years a Slave, Prometheus, to the X-Men movies (as Magneto), the 38-year-old Irish-German actor has proven just how versatile he is. Some people have raised their eyebrows at the rumored news.

Back when it was still undecided who would play  handsome billionaire Christian Grey, Fassbender was rumored to be one of the preferred actors. He ruled himself out of playing the youngish business tycoon, though, in the controversial film adaptation of E.L. James' erotic novel. For the second instalment, Fifty Shades Darker, Michael has once again appeared as among the top choices to play Christian Grey's psychiatrist Dr. Flynn.

It may be a cameo role, but if plans push through, Fassbender as Dr. Flynn will ignite much interest, which augurs well for the movie. Fifty Shades Darker, it must be noted, highlights Anastasia Steele's transformation into a woman.  Dr. Flynn gives pieces of advice to Ana, reassuring her that Christian Grey is a frightened and angry, troubled young man who has gone through traumatic experiences in his youth.

Whether the creative team will lengthen the role of Dr. Flynn and whether it's true that Michael Fassbender will play the psychiatrist remains speculation. One thing's certain: Michael Fassbender is hot. Both his colleagues and fans acknowledge that.  Should he decide to take part in a movie that tries to go beyond the sex scenes and focuses a bit on how the protagonist is wrestling with his inner demons, lots of people will be thrilled. Once adjudged "the sexiest actor alive" by Glamour Magazine, Michael Fassbender's sex appeal and mysterious aura are things that fit in well with the erotic flick.  Will Dr. Flynn's role be expanded to include sexy scenes? How will it all play out?

Fans are keeping their fingers crossed that he'll be able to fit in filming (should he agree to join the cast of Fifty Shades Darker) in his ever busy schedule. Michaels upcoming movies include Macbeth, Steve Jobs, Prometheus 2, Assasin's Creed, and X-Men: Apocalypse, among others.

Interestingly, Michael Fassbender has played roles of  men experiencing inner turmoil in the past. If plans to cast him as Dr. Flynn push through, he'll be the one doing the psychoanalysis. Fans will surely sit up and take notice.
