Inhumans is still a long, long long way away. As of right now, it's the final film planned in Marvel Studios' Phase Three of films, and not set to debut until 2019, after both Avengers: Infinity War films have already premiered in theaters. But that might not be the case anymore, if recent rumors are to be believed.

First, former Anchorman director Adam McKay is being linked to the film. McKay already has ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having done a rewrite on the script for Ant-Man, which stars Paul Rudd and releases this year. But he may yet direct a film himself. At least, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige seemed to imply that would happen, via We Got This Covered:

"Adam McKay is in the running for everything. Adam McKay is a great, great writer and director," Feige revealed. "He did an amazing pass on the Ant-Man draft with Paul Rudd for us, and I didn't know him before then. And we got to know him through that and liked him very much, and have met with him a number of times trying to find something else, so we've talked about a lot of characters with him."

So according to Feige, McKay could potentially direct any number of Phase 3 films- Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man, Black Panther or Captain Marvel- but Inhumans is the name he's being linked to right now.

However, the film's schedule might move if Feige wants Inhumans to tie in with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is currently going through a major Inhumans-based story arc. According to Chloe Bennet, who stars on Agents and plays an Inhuman character, it's possible that Inhuman characters from the series could reappear in the film.

Feige himself, is a little more coy on the matter, hinting at the possibility but not saying it outright:

"And in some cases, like with the Avengers movies, it's very close. We have to say, 'This is happening, so you have to do this.' In the case of the Inhumans, they're blazing new ground. As we get down the road towards that one, we'll see what the pieces are."

Inhumans will premiere in theaters on July 12, 2019.
