In a report from ABCNews, tech bloggers had been warning the public about a new Verizon scam. The said scam tricks customers as their phone’s caller ID would display a real Verizon Wireless tech support number. The said scam caused customers to provide personal information to fraudsters, believing that they had been called by a real tech support from Verizon.

According to DroidLife, a real Verizon Wireless support number appears along with the name “Technical Support” on mobile phones. Along with this fraudulent call, an automated message would inform the call receiver that they have received a USD54 reward. This would redirect them to open the website www.verizon54.com. A prompt message would also appear that reads, "because at Verizon, we care about you."

A spokesperson for Verizon Wireless Thomas Pica said, “These kinds of scams, sometimes referred to as “spoofing,” are often aimed at consumers using any number of different well-known consumer companies names in an attempt to lure an unsuspecting victim”.
