A tax holiday was sought by Odisha Industries Federation for its small and medium industries located in the Ganjam district. The period demanded was for at least a year and it also included a INR2,000 crore grant in aid to rebuild the damaged infrastructure caused by the recent flooding from cyclone Phailin.

The federation further urges the government to issue a moratorium on all statutory repayment to banks and financial institutions for a year. In a statement, Odisha Industries Federation Vice Chairman for the South Zone Rajendra Kumar Mishra, "The total loss to the sector, in the district, due to the cyclone and floods is not less than INR1,500 crore. It can be revived only with the immediate intervention of the state and central governments."

The Federation had also submitted a memorandum to the Joint Director of Industries, specifically Director SK Sarangi, when he visited the district after the storm to assess the damage in the SME sector.
