The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) arrested an airport employee today for causing the dry ice explosions at the Los Angeles Airport (LAX) on Sunday. Police said DiCarlo Bennett, a 28 year old baggage handler at the LAX, placed a plastic bottle containing dry ice in the men's restroom. The contraption exploded, which caused a temporary shutdown of airport operations. No one was hurt in the incident.

Police said the suspect was playing around and thought it was funny. Authorities also said there was no motive or political agenda and that the LAX was safe.

Bennett would now be facing charges of possession of a destructive device near an aircraft. He is now held on bail of USD 1 million.

Bennett was one of the 15,000 employees of Servisair, an aviation and ground services firm. It provides tailored airport services at the LAX and 118 other locations worldwide. Servisair is part Derichebourg Group which operates in 23 countries and had posted consolidated revenues of EUR 3.7 billion last year.
