Mark Zuckerberg Becomes the World's Third-Richest Person After Dethroning Elon Musk

According to Fortune, Mark Zuckerberg surged to the third position on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index on Friday, with a net worth of $187 billion. That marks the return of the Meta CEO to the top three since 2020.

Elon Musk, the Tesla CEO and owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, has descended to the fourth spot with a fortune totaling $181 billion.

Wealth of Elon Musk Dips Due to Tesla's Underwhelming Performance

Elon Musk fell to fourth after it was reported that Tesla had canceled plans for a less-expensive car, coupled with a decline in vehicle deliveries, sending shares tumbling.

Tesla's performance in the first quarter of 2024 was underwhelming. The company recently reported a decrease in vehicle deliveries in the three months through March, its first year-over-year decline in nearly four years.

Musk's wealth has fallen by $48.4 billion this year alone, while Mark Zuckerberg has added $58.9 billion to his fortune as Meta shares recently climbed to new highs, including a new record high closing price on Friday.

Zuckerberg is now edging closer to the wealth of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who currently holds second place with a net worth of $207 billion. LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault is topping the wealth ranking list, boasting a substantial net worth of $223 billion.

Beyond their financial standings, Zuckerberg and Musk have been engaged in a public spat for years. Their rivalry dates back to 2016 when a SpaceX mishap destroyed a Facebook satellite.

It further intensified when Meta launched Threads, a social-media platform that became a rival to Musk's X. The two arch-rival billionaires even traded barbs last year about a potential cage fight.
