Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday (Apr. 7) that Ukraine stands on the brink of losing its war against Russia if the United States Congress continues to block military aid crucial for Kyiv's defense against Moscow's invasion.

Zelenskyy's plea comes amid a protracted deadlock in Congress that has hindered the disbursement of tens of billions of dollars in military assistance to support Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression.

Zelenskyy Urges US Congress Aid Amid Escalating Ukraine Conflict

During a video meeting of the Kyiv-organized fundraising platform United24, Zelenskyy emphasized the critical nature of congressional support.

"It is necessary to specifically tell Congress that if Congress does not help Ukraine, Ukraine will lose the war," he warned.

He further highlighted the challenging reality facing Ukraine without adequate aid, stating that it would be "difficult" for Ukraine to survive without the necessary support.

Zelenskyy's warning comes amidst escalating violence and casualties in Ukraine. Recent reports indicate that a Russian strike on the town of Gulyaipole in the southern Zaporizhzhia region claimed the lives of three civilians.

Additionally, attacks in other regions, such as Kharkiv and Kupiansk, have resulted in further civilian casualties and injuries.

In response to difficulties in receiving weapons and aid from the United States and Europe, Ukraine has significantly increased its funding for domestic weaponry, VCPost reported last month.

The Ukrainian government reportedly allocated nearly $1.4 billion in 2024 for purchasing and developing domestic armaments, marking a twentyfold increase compared to pre-invasion levels.

Russia Accuses Ukraine of Attacks on Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Station

Meanwhile, Russia has claimed to have destroyed multiple Ukrainian drones along its border regions, with tragic consequences for civilians caught in the crossfire.

Russia's Rosatom, a nuclear power corporation, has also accused Ukraine's military of launching multiple attacks on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station, which is under Russian control.

The plant's Russian-installed administration said Ukrainian forces struck the dome above a shutdown reactor at the station, resulting in minimal damage and normal radiation levels.

Still, three people were injured in these attacks, with one person seriously hurt, according to Rosatom.

A Ukrainian intelligence official has denied any involvement of Kyiv in these strikes, suggesting that they might have been carried out by Russian forces themselves.

The Zaporizhzhia station is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
