First announced last year, Walmart will provide accessible and comprehensive healthcare services to communities across the United States.

Through its Health Clinic network, it will nearly double the number of doctor-staffed health clinics by the end of the year. The expansion initiative will also see Walmart opening its inaugural health facility in Texas next month, building on its existing network of 48 Walmart Health centers spread across five states. The company aims to add 22 new locations in 2024 alone.

With a keen focus on meeting the healthcare needs of different regions, Walmart Health Center's expansion strategy will also venture into new markets such as Missouri.

Dr. David Carmouche, Walmart's senior vice president of healthcare delivery, reiterated the company's dedication to providing convenient and personalized healthcare for each patient. In a statement to Forbes, he valued inclusivity in health by highlighting Walmart Health's multiple service lines, all of which are delivered by a community-focused team of board-certified providers.

Walmart Health Center Competitors

Now, Walmart's healthcare expansion aligns with ongoing efforts by major competitors in the healthcare sector.

Amazon, for example, has expanded its doctor-staffed One Medical Clinics network, and CVS Health widened its range of medical care provider operations.

However, while Walmart's expansion strategy is ambitious, it also prioritizes a measured approach that considers each community's unique needs. This approach contrasts with the challenges faced by some competitors, such as Walgreens, which has encountered difficulties scaling its healthcare investments.

The upcoming Walmart Health centers, boasting an average size of around 5,400 square feet, will be conveniently situated within Walmart Supercenters, ensuring easy access for customers. These centers are designed to provide a wide array of healthcare services, covering primary care, dental care, behavioral health, laboratory tests, X-rays, and telehealth consultations, all under one roof.
