The latest Subaru mass recall will affect hundreds of thousands of vehicles because of an airbag issue.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed this on Tuesday, Mar. 27.
According to The Hill, the mass recall will affect more than 118,000 Subaru vehicles. Based on the documents filed by the NHTSA, the vehicle models affected are 2020-2022 Outback and Legacy cars.
The Japanese automaker said it knows 252 warrant claims and 23 technical reports related to the airbag issue.
However, the car manufacturer clarified that it hadn't received any report regarding injuries caused by the airbag flaw. People familiar with the matter said the problem might have begun during production.
Regarding the specific issue, the NHTSA said airbags may not deploy during a car crash because of a faulty sensor.
Officials said that a capacitator in the sensors may crack and short circuit, which could prevent airbags from deploying during accidents.

Affected vehicles will have their sensors on the front passenger seats replaced free of charge. The NHTSA said that letters will be sent to affected owners as early as May.
