The bridge collapsed early March 26 after being struck by the Singapore-flagged Dali container ship, sending multiple vehicles and people plunging into the frigid harbor below. There was no immediate confirmation of the cause of the disaster, but Baltimore's Police Commissioner Richard Worley said there was "no indication" of terrorism.

As first reported by CNBC, the large shipping company Maersk acknowledged that it chartered the container ship DALI, which was involved in a collision with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.

The collision resulted in the Baltimore bridge collapsing.

The company clarified that the vessel 'DALI' was chartered by Maersk and was transporting cargo belonging to its customers. Fortunately, no Maersk crew or personnel were onboard the ship at the time of the collision.

Shortly after the incident, Maersk expressed their grievances and sympathized with all those affected by the collision.

How Did Maersk Collide With the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore?

CNBC revealed that reports from local officials show that the incident occurred around 1:35 a.m. local time and resulted in a partial bridge collapse across the Patapsco River.

The Effects of Maersk Collision with the Baltimore Bridge

The collision's aftermath has extended far beyond Maersk, impacting global supply chains due to the suspension of traffic at Baltimore Port, one of the busiest on the U.S. East Coast.

With at least nine cargo vessels bound for Baltimore Bridge anchored outside the port, concerns about delays and logistical challenges have heightened, amplifying the ripple effects of the incident.

The Maersk collision is also expected to trigger extensive investigations and financial consequences. Shipping expert David Ostler warns that officials will look into liability issues, potentially resulting in million-dollar expenses.

The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Baltimore Bridge has also prompted Governor Wes Moore to declare a State of Emergency in Maryland. Governor Moore has communicated closely with U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski, and the Baltimore Fire Department to coordinate emergency response efforts.

"We are thankful for the brave men and women who are carrying out efforts to rescue those involved and pray for everyone's safety."

A rescue operation is currently underway, with emergency personnel on the scene.
