McDonald's has unveiled its latest venture, CosMc's, a new spinoff brand that promises a unique and extraterrestrial fast-food experience.

The inaugural location is in Bolingbrook, Illinois, and it is set to open this week, marking the fast-food giant's initiation of a limited test phase. McDonald's aims to open 10 CosMc's pilot locations, with nine of them positioned across Texas, by the end of 2024.

Following this initial phase, the company plans to analyze the gathered data before deciding on the potential expansion of this mall-format chain.

"Our universe is growing this week as McDonald's starts testing CosMc's, a new small-format, beverage-led concept that's truly out of this world. Inspired by nostalgia and powered by a menu of bold, refreshing beverages and tasty treats, CosMc's is landing earthside for us humans to enjoy," the fast-food giant said in a statement.

CosMc's Food Offerings

The moniker "CosMc's" draws inspiration from a familiar McDonaldland character named CosMc, who graced advertisements in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

This cosmic character is the muse for the beverage-led concept that McDonald's is unveiling. The inaugural CosMc's location in Bolingbrook will pioneer the new venture, featuring a menu that combines new beverages with a select array of food items, including some McDonald's classics.

The food offerings at CosMc's will feature savory delights like the Spicy Queso Sandwich, Savory Hash Brown Bites, and Pretzel Bites with dipping sauces. For those with a sweet tooth, options like the Blueberry Lemon Cookie Sundae and Caramel Fudge Brownies are set to delight.

CosMc's Digital Drive-Thru

CosMc's will also feature a uniquely seamless digital and Drive-Thru experience. The ordering and payment process will be streamlined with menu boards and cashless payment devices, offering guests a guided exploration and customization journey.

McDonald's ambitious plans for CosMc's was to extend beyond its initial test phase. If the test works out, the company is targeting to open CosMc's across the globe.

"The big story isn't about CosMc's, per se. The big story is what it says about McDonald's and our potential," McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski told investors during the company's investor day on Wednesday, as CNBC reported.

"To think, a little over a year ago, this was an idea, and this week we're opening the first test site... It's not worth our time to develop an idea that will only work in one market," he added.
