The Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs), used in the prevention and treatment of muscle waste associated with various diseases, is an emerging agent which is in late-stage clinical development.  

In a human body, muscle loss can take place due to aging and different diseases including cancer, heart failure, osteoporosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, end-stage liver disease, end-stage renal disease and HIV.
