As Apple fans find the new iPhones too expensive, budget Android smartphones offer a cheaper alternative with competitive specs and features matching up to the iPhones. Among the best iPhone 6s substitutes are Samsung Galaxy Edge Plus, Huawei Mate S, Moto G, and Sony Xperia Z5.

Mirror reports that two out of five Apple buyers will wait for the iPhone's price to come down before making a purchase, according to a survey by Uswitch. The iPhone 6s priced at £539 and the 6s Plus at £619 definitely takes a toll on the wallet.

Fortunately, Apple is no longer a solo player in the high-end phone market. Now, many phone manufacturers are offering premium smartphones for the budget-conscious customer. The Telegraph lists the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus on top of the list of best Android alternatives to iPhone 6s.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus 32 GB version costs £410, still cheaper than the iPhone 6s. The device dons a strong, scratch-resistant aluminum frame and a slim body with a 5.7" HD display. It is equipped with new video features such as facial recognition and add to that a Knox security defense platform. Packed with an octa-core processor and a 3000 mAh battery, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus offers great value for money.

Huawei Mate S is another contender in the premium budget phone market. Priced at £476, the Mate S offers similar features to the iPhone 6s such as pressure-sensitive technology, which Huawei calls Knuckle Sense 2.0. The Mate S looks identical to the iPhone 6s body though it does not have the highly-criticized white antenna lines on the iPhone. It even offers a rose-gold variant that covers the whole body of the device from head to toe.

The Sunday Morning Herald reports another budget phone: the Moto G. The device is water-resistant, runs the latest 5.1.1 Android Lollipop, and has an SD card slot. Its 13 MP rear camera has the capacity to record 1080p videos. With a selling price of only £100, the Moto G with its specs and features can be considered a bargain.

On the other hand, the Sony Xperia Z5 also comes with dust and water resistance and fingerprint sensors for unlocking mechanism. It runs Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0. The Xperia Z5's PS4 remote integration allows for playing PS4 games anywhere using the device.

Other cheaper phones than the iPhone 6s that bring greater bang-for-the-buck are the LG G4, HTC One M9, Nexus 5 2015, Huawei P8, and the Moto X Style. Apple's iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus face tough competition amidst the increasing number of high-end budget phones entering the market.
