The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are rumored to have 2 GB of RAM according to a Reddit post and an experiment done with the Xcode iOS simulator. Increasing the RAM size will apparently make the iPhones perform better and faster, challenging Android phones running 4 GB RAM.

Ars Technica reports that a developer named Hamza Sood was able to confirm the RAM size for the iPhone 6s using an Xcode simulator. Xcode is Apple's integrated development environment (IDE) that gives everything developers need to create apps for Mac and iDevices. Using Xcode 7.1 beta with a custom app and an iPhone 6s simulator, Sood found out that the iPhone 6s is equipped with 2 GB RAM. Previously, Sood also said that iPhone 6 will ship with 1 GB RAM which was proven to be true.

According to NDTV Gadgets, a Reddit user known as adobeflashcrashed claimed that the iPhone 6S has 2GB RAM. He claimed that he had access to Apple's internal website. However, he only gave screenshots of the alleged website but was not able to provide any screenshots of the specs list because of employee watermarking. Although the iPhone 6s Plus was not mentioned in the post, it is likely to have the same internal specifications as the iPhone 6s.

When compared with Android phones such as Samsung Galaxy S6 and Moto X, the iPhone considerably uses a smaller RAM in its system yet performance is not sacrificed. This is possible because Apple's iOS efficiently manages memory by eliminating unnecessary third-party apps and browser tabs.

Though a larger RAM does not necessarily guarantee faster performance, it can lead to better user experience. Tech 2 reports that a 2GB RAM for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will make the devices last longer with each iOS upgrade. The phones will be able to smoothly run graphics-intensive games and apps without too much problems.

It is not just the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus that will get RAM upgrades. The iPad Pro will also be bumped up to 4GB RAM, which was confirmed by Sood as well. Adobe made the first claim on this in a recent press release, but later removed the information.

Upgrading the RAM of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus to 2GB is expected to lead to a faster and improved device performance. The new iPhones will be officially released to the public on September 25.
