'Blade Runner 2' will have award-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins on board to shoot the dystopian cult film sequel. The man behind the camera is known as a living legend amongst his colleagues in the industry.

According to The Wrap, Deakins will team up with director Denis Villeneuve for the third time to bring 'Blade Runner' back on the big screen. The two previously collaborated on the films 'Prisoners' and 'Sicario'- their latest Cannes Film Festival entry.

The British cinematographer is a 12-time Oscar-nominee with a massive repertoire of critically acclaimed films under his belt. Some of Deakins' notable works include 'Unbroken', 'Skyfall', 'No Country for Old Men', 'The Reader' and 'True Grit'.

In another article by Screen Crush, Deakins' involvement in the upcoming movie would be promising enough. A press release announced that filming is scheduled to start in the summer of 2016. It added, "Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green have written the original screenplay based on an idea by Fancher and Ridley Scott. The story takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original. Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Rick Deckard."

With such an impressive resume to date, Deakins seems to be the right fit to take on the late Jordan Conenweth's role as principal 'Blade Runner 2' cinematographer. His predecessor was best known for setting the industry standard for innovative camerawork and groundbreaking imagery. Conenweth was announced as one of International Cinematographers Guild's (ICG) top 10 most influential cinematographers of all time, according to an article by Creative Planet Network. He was said to have transformed the art form beginning in the 1950s.

'Blade Runner 2' is currently in the works as a follow-up film for the neo-noir science-fiction masterpiece 'Blade Runner'. The original film from the 1980s directed by Ridley Scott spawned a strong cult following despite being initially snubbed by North American audiences. Actor Harrison Ford was said to reprise his role as special agent and replicant hunter Rick Deckard, the protagonist and narrator of the original film.
