When Ghostbusters- the upcoming reboot, that is- first announced its cast, the first name associated with the movie was a name everyone was expecting: Melissa McCarthy. Director Paul Feig had worked with McCarthy in a series of hit movies, including The Heat, Bridesmaids and this summer's Spy, so it was only natural that he'd hire on one of his closest actresses to star in his Ghostbusters reboot.

And we've known for a while that McCarthy will be playing one of the lead Ghostbusters, along with fellow cast members Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones. But is it possible that McCarthy isn't just playing a Ghostbuster, but an actual ghost in the film? So far, we haven't heard anything about any actors playing ghosts (or villains, or supporting roles, really), so it may be possible.

McCarthy recently shared some new Ghostbusters story details with GamesRadar: "Absolutely. For sure. Yes because it's a female cast, but also because is going to put a really modern, current twist on it. It will be scary and have good action. He pulls from the classics but he's a very modern director. I truly believe they could not have picked a better director to launch that franchise."

Paul Feig was discussing some story details for the latest Ghostbusters as well, and let slip an important spoiler from the film- that McCarthy's character will be the lead Ghostbuster in the film. Which may discount the potential spoiler that she'd be playing a ghost in the film.

Says Feig: "It's an ensemble, but at the same time you need the one person that brings you into the group. [Confirms that is Kristen Wiig] and then Melissa is sort of the leader of the group. But everyone will be equal. I just love a deep bench like this. Every one of those women are so strong and so funny. The hard thing is giving everyone enough stuff...keeping all their stuff in the movie, I should say. You don't want to have a 3 hour long movie."

Recently, rumors have cropped up around the new Ghostbusters film, regarding Ray Parker Jr.'s classic Ghostbusters theme song. Will the song feature in the film? Well, according to Cinema Blend (and Paul Feig, once again) it's still not clear. Hopefully the new Ghostbusters film will still have the classic theme. It wouldn't be Ghostbusters without it.

Ghostbusters will premiere in theaters on July 22, 2016.
