Microsoft recently filed a patent for a technology that allows multiple operating systems installed on Android devices. The company's Windows 10 Mobile features Continuum that can turn phones into a desktop computer with wireless connection.

BGR reported that Microsoft is figuring out a way to make multiple OS installations possible on Android smartphones. The new patent filed by the company titled User Selectable Operating Systems indicated that the technology would allow users to select which OS to run on their device. They are also given options to delete operating systems.

The patent was published after Windows announced that it was partnering with Xiaomi to beta test Windows 10 Mobile. According to a report by Komando, Windows 10 for mobile devices will boast the Continuum feature which can turn smartphones to desktop computers.

Through a wireless connection, the phone can be linked to a monitor, mouse, and keyboard; allowing it to function like a PC. However, it might take a long time before users can fully maximize the feature since installed apps need to be compatible with Continuum.

The report further added that Microsoft's upcoming Lumia phones will showcase Windows 10 Mobile OS. The rumored devices will likely use liquid cooling to prevent overheating problems with processors. With liquid cooling, the phones' processors could perform at peak level to make the devices run faster and more efficiently.

Dazeinfo reported that Microsoft's multiple OS installation technology can be a way to help the company grow in the smartphone market. Although Microsoft is at the top of the desktop market, its share in the phone market is minimal.

Letting Android users experience Windows 10 OS in their phones without needing to purchase new hardware could let Microsoft perform better at the smartphone market. It can also help the company compete against Google's Chrome OS that will likely have a similar function with Continuum.
