The reboot of the 1990's band of teenage superheroes, "Power Rangers" will be filming in Vancouver under the code name "SHIRT." Lionsgate announced that the untitled Power Rangers movie is scheduled to begin in British Columbia on January 18 and end on April 12, 2016.

However, the "Power Rangers" series will not be able to make its original release date of July 22, 2016. The big-budget film was first announced that is in works in May 2014 as a joint project between the original creator of the series Saban Entertainment, and Lionsgate Entertainment.

The series has first seen on television in the summer of 1993 on the now-defunct Fox Kids network and since then had a cult following. Enthusiastic followers of the series express high hopes that the movie will give justice to what the series is really about.  A Movie Pilot article shows concern on how the movie will portray the similar vibe of the TV series. The importance of tone of the movie was highlighted and how it could define the film and can determine the success of the upcoming reboot.

The movie is anticipated to have an original story from the rest of the other Power Ranger movie created previously. The author also reiterated that the upcoming film should give importance on its portrayal of a dynamic and colorful adventure, as opposed to taking a darker and more serious approach on the well-loved series.

The reboot will be directed by "Project Almanac's" Dean Israelite from a script prepared and written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stenz who were responsible for "X-Men: First Class" and "Thor." Israelite talked about the script and commented that there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material. No news on the casting has been released but it was reported that the reboot will still follow the five teenagers named Jason (Red Ranger), Billy (Blue Ranger), Zack (Black Ranger), Kimberly (Pink Ranger), and Trini (Yellow Ranger).

This will be the third film in the series following 1995's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and 1997's Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie.
