The 'Gambit' movie has been encountering difficulties, one after the other, with the exit of director Rupert Wyatt being the most recent. Without anyone currently at the helm of 'Gambit', the film might look to push its 2016 release to 2017, amidst reported script and budget issues as well.

According to Movie Pilot, the issues that plague 'Gambit' is a domino of problems that started with the script, then budget, followed by the delay in production start date and then, Wyatt's exit. With these huge factors, it is not unlikely that Fox will announce a push back in premiere schedule for 'Gambit'. Apparently, the script is still being worked on, with the decision to re-adjust it after the messy flop that was Fantastic Four.

This script readjustments allegedly ballooned the budget to around $155 million, coming close to the 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' budget of $200 million. Many have raised eyebrows on the scale that 'Gambit' may have, and many think that this is a little risky as Channing Tatum's 'Gambit' is not as established as Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. Pre-production supposedly began on June 29, 2015, and overall production was expected to wrap on February 12, 2016 but it seems script production has caused problems with the schedule as well.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the film's 75-day shooting schedule was moved to early spring of 2016, from the original October 13, 2015. With the new production start of around late March to early April lasting until around June 2016, 'Gambit' is left with just around 4 months for post production if it sticks to the October 2016 release.

Production delay consequently cost 'Gambit' its director, Wyatt. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wyatt cited schedule conflict as his reason for exiting the film. The director has explained that he was excited to work with Tatum and the 'Gambit' team at Fox but "regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project." Even with his exit, Wyatt thinks 'Gambit' will still make a "terrific film."

With Wyatt's departure, 'Gambit' has to find another director who can take on the big-budgeted film, and it is not clear whether Fox has directors in mind already. The hunt for a new director may take little time or it may cause new delays in the production. Undoubtedly another delay in the already-crammed schedule will seal off the fate of 'Gambit' to a 2017 release rather than its 7 October 2016 release.
