The upcoming sequel for the hit film "Avatar" is scheduled to be released in December 2017, themed around the ocean ecosystem. "Avatar 2" will be receiving its own attraction in Animal Kingdom, located in Florida.

Jim Gianopulos, CEO of 20th Century Fox declared that according to his expectations, Avatar 2 will be shown around Christmas 2017. This announcement was made by Gianopulos back at the Gabelli & Company's Movie & Entertainment Conference. Previously, it was announced that "Avatar 2" is slated for release in 2016. However, it was confirmed that the film will premiere later than expected due to the experimentation with advanced technology by director James Cameron.

Three years ago, director of the blockbuster hit James Cameron revealed that they are doing Avatar films. Cameron also commented on the movie's website that fans can expect Sigourney Weaver returning to the film in a different character for the sequels. The character of Dr. Grace Augustine played by Weaver who died in 2009 Avatar film will also be there but in a new character.

Alongside "Avatar 2," Cameron and his production team will be working on the film's succeeding installments. Fans can expect the progress of "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4." It was reportedly stated that "Avatar 2" and "Avatar 3" will happen in the ocean of Pandora.

The upcoming film saga will reportedly create rich new worlds and cultures by using ultra-high definition frame rates. Cameron was also said to be developing technology to allow performance capture of sequences to be filmed underwater.

It was announced during Disney's annual D23 Expo held in Anaheim, California that there will be an Avatar-themed attraction to be openned in Florida. It will be called "Pandora: World of Avatar." The debut of the attraction will happen before the showing of "Avatar 2."

"Avatar," released back in 2009, achieved a rare feat in modern cinema. The film was commercially and critically successful. It became the highest grossing movie of all time. "Avatar 2" is set to premiere in December 2017. "Avatar 3" will follow in 2018 and "Avatar 4" is expected to release in 2019.
