Shepherdess Bo Peep is set to make a big comeback in Toy Story 4 and the sequel will be revolving around her burgeoning romance with Woody.

Disney Pixar's chief creative officer John Lasseter put in plain words that the next part of the studio's animated franchise would be a love story. "It's a love story with Woody and Bo Peep." Lasseter has revealed the major information in the Disney's D23 Expo in California. There is romance in store for Woody in "Toy Story 4," the good-natured toy cowboy voiced by Tom Hanks and Bo Peep voiced by Annie Potts who appeared in previous films as Woody's girlfriend, but their relationship was never a focus.

Bo Peep, who is Woody's spirited, porcelain belle amour was omitted from Andy's toy chest in Toy Story 3. The absence was not explained and Peep was briefly referenced as one of many "friends lost" during Andy's teenage years. Viewers were left to assume the worst that she had been trashed, donated, or unceremoniously sold at a yard sale.

"Toy Story 3" seemed to have wrapped up and concluded painstakingly with Woody being passed on to a new generation of children that it was a surprise that a fourth installment will be released as announced last year.

Lasseter directed the first two Toy Story films and will also direct the fourth, due for release in 2017. "At Pixar and at Disney, we only make sequels if we come up with a story that's as good or better than the original. That's our rule. We don't do things just to print money," he told CNBC's "Squawk on the Street."

The original Toy Story was the first feature-length computer-animated movie and an early success for Pixar. It was a critical hit and grossed more than US$350 million worldwide.

Actors Rashida Jones and Will McCormack are writing the screenplay, but Lasseter who is directing the film said the story was inspired by that of his wife, Nancy. "Toy Story 4" is due in theaters on June 16, 2017.
