"Grey's Anatomy" is aiming for a dramatic season 12 as showrunner Shonda Rhimes is reportedly planning to shake things up between Jo and Alex amidst all the major changes in the series' story and cast members.

Fans of the hit ABC medical drama should prepare for a more tear-jerking experience as the new season is set to delve into the aftermath of last season's events. Day Herald reported that there will be major changes on the new season that fans should watch out for.

One of these changes has something to do with the death of Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd. Showrunner Shonda Rhimes and ABC already added a few cast members to give the show a facelift, in preparation for the new season.

Aside from adding new faces on the show, Rhimes is also planning to make things sour for Camilla Luddington's Jo Wilson and Justin Chambers' Alex Karev. Day Herald also noted that the two have been together for quite some time and have the most uncomplicated relationship in the show so far.

According to Luddington, her character's relationship with Alex may be too good to be true for a medical drama, that's why season 12 is the perfect time to shake things up a little bit between the couple.

Another couple that might get shaken on season 12 is Sarah Drew's April and Jesse Williams' Jackson. The two had a rough season 11 when they lost their son and that might continue until the next season due to April's decision to pursue her career.

Meanwhile, despite all the changes and drama, the bond between Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo and Caterina Scorsone's Amelia Shepherd will get stronger in the new season of the "Grey's Anatomy" series as they both deal with the death of Derek, reports Christian Today.

"They are, actually, the two people who were most deeply affected by his death. The need to come together and be sisters, be the sisters that they are so they can help each other," Scorsone said.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will be a dramatic ride for all the fans of the ABC medical drama. Major changes are expected  to happen after the season 12 finale's events and few relationships may be shaken including Jo's and Alex's while Meredith and Amelia's bond gets stronger.
