Good news, Guardians of the Galaxy fans! Director James Gunn has already begun the process for Guardians 2. Even though the sequel to last year's mega-hit Marvel movie won't be in theaters until the summer of 2017 (and the production won't officially begin until next February), Gunn clearly can't stop thinking about comic book characters- he's already started thinking of actors to fill the new roles added to the sequel.

Gunn held a Q&A session on Twitter last weekend, giving several updates on the status of Guardians 2. The obvious, freakout-worthy news is that Gunn's already spoken to one actor about playing a new character that will join the Guardians team next time around. Obviously, Gunn couldn't say any more that (as the saying now goes, Marvel has snipers everywhere), but Gunn has already mentioned he'd like to add two new team members to the Guardians- both of them female comic book characters. Chances are, whoever Gunn's talking to now is up for one of them.

The comic book Guardians team has had quite a few prominent super-women over the years- any of them could be the characters Gunn has in mind. There's Phyla-Vell, who can fly, has quite a bit of super-strength and can fire off energy blasts. There's also Mantis, who's a martial arts master, telepathic, and can control plants at will. That should certainly make things awkward (or awesome, potentially- think of the team-up attacks) with Groot.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 won't be the end for the Guardians- Chris Pratt recently admitted he'll be starring in more than just Guardians films, with most people assuming he'll appear in the very cosmic Avengers: Infinity War films. Chances are, the other Guardians will appear with him! Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will groove into theaters (with a killer soundtrack, no doubt) on May 5, 2017.
