Pixar's been plugging Inside Out like crazy in the last few weeks, but their other 2015 release- The Good Dinosaur- has received next to nothing in publicity. There isn't even a trailer! Just a couple of concept art pieces and a general idea of what the movie is about- an alternate world where dinosaurs will co-mingle with human beings.

But now John Lasseter (the chief creative executive for Disney and Pixar) has given Pixar fans a few new details about The Good Dinosaur. At the Cannes Film Festival this week, Lasseter hosted a presentation about Disney and Pixar's upcoming film slate, and while there was plenty of Inside Out, he also breached the topic of The Good Dinosaur.

According to Lasseter, The Good Dinosaur is "striving for a very unique tone, unlike any animated film made." As well, he also stated, "I think our next movie asks the biggest what if of all.  What if the asteroid that wiped out dinosaurs actually missed earth?"

Lasseter presented some brief bits of footage from the film: nature scenes that look entirely photorealistic, but are actually rendered out of CGI. "It's not going to be your average backdrop for a film," explained Lasseter.

Finally, Lasseter summed up the plot: "This is a boy and a dog story, but the roles are reversed." The presentation also included a few clips and photos from the film, but what was shown was still fairly unfinished. With the footage still unfinished, does that mean the first The Good Dinosaur trailer is still fairly far off? It would make sense to air the first footage in front of Inside Out, but Pixar might not be ready by then.

The presentation also included the other films that Disney and Pixar have on the horizon- Finding Dory, which will follow Dory (plus Marlin and Nemo from Finding Nemo) as they search for Dory's family. Also, Zootopia, which takes place in a fantasy world populated by anthropomorphic animals, and Moana, the latest Disney Princess film, set in the ancient Pacific Islands. The Good Dinosaur will release on November 25, 2015.
