Madden NFL 16 just gave Odell Beckham Jr. a huge honor- the New York Giants wide receiver will be immortalized on the cover of Madden NFL 16. He's the youngest athlete to ever make it onto a Madden cover, at the age of 22. It's all extremely impressive- and it would likely point to a lengthy and succesful career from Beckham in the NFL.

Except for one problem- the so-called Madden Curse, that claims any football player highlighted on the cover of a Madden game will go on to have an absolutely terrible season. Since 1999, players on Madden covers have noticed sudden sags in their career, starting with Garrison Hearst, the running back who broke his ankle shortly after appearing on a Madden cover. Barry Sanders, Daunte Culpepper, Ray Lewis and Donovan McNabb are also famous examples- all appearing on Madden covers and all suffering unexpected downfalls just a short while later.

However, Beckham's taking on the curse head-on. Via Twitter, he's admitted that he doesn't fear the Madden Curse and that the only emotions he's feeling about his upcoming cover appearance are overwhelming excitement. When the cover was first announced, Beckham tweeted:

"Man I just personally wanna thank all the love and support from everybody for voting today!! It's mean so much to be on the cover of Madden"

"Truly honored and blessed! God has opened doors I would of never believed"

And when asked about the Madden Curse, he responded: "I believe in God and his divine plan not something that is wished upon of others!"

What do you think- is Beckham cursed, or will his positive attitude keep him safe from harm? Or is the curse not even real at all? Whatever ends up happening to Beckham, Madden NFL 16 is set to release on August 25, 2015 on Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
