'Suicide Squad' lands common in major role? Potential 'Green Lantern' DC crossover imminent

Suicide Squad is already jam-packed with cast members as it is. The film currently stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. The cast is huge- maybe the hugest in any superhero movie that doesn't have "Avengers" in the title.

But the cast for Suicide Squad just got one bigger- it's just been revealed that Common, the rapper/actor who won an Oscar this year for his song Glory, featured in the film Selma, is now joining Suicide Squad.

Common was cast as a superhero once before- back when the original plans for a Justice League movie were going through, Common was in the running to play John Stewart, the Green Lantern. However, when that fell through Common's chances of playing John Stewart were destroyed. Until now. As Suicide Squad is a part of the DC Universe, it's entirely likely that he could be playing a version of Green Lantern in the film.

Some have noted WB's reluctance to disclose who Common is playing, which may be a sign it's a fairly large role (as well, Common's a very large name after winning an Oscar this year). However, WB has also played it coy with several other actors, including Scott Eastwood.

However, Screen Rant reports that Common may be playing Bronze Tiger, a DC Comics antihero with incredible martial arts skill. Bronze Tiger may be more likely than John Stewart, given that Bronze Tiger has been a part of the Suicide Squad in previous comics. Still, either option is possible at this time until WB divulges who Common was officially cast as. Until then, continue to speculate- Bronze Tiger, or Green Lantern?

Suicide Squad will premiere in theaters on August 5, 2016.
