Fake Spider-man post-credit scene one of Marvel's tactics? Andrew Garfield still up for the role?

Spider-Man's been a hot topic lately, ever since a purported post-credits scene from Avengers: Age of Ultron leaked online and seemingly teased the introduction of Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the clip, we can see a window washer cleaning off a particularly dirty window, high up on the side of a building. When he cleans enough of the window, we can see Spider-Man clinging to another part of the building. Spider-Man throws out a couple-one liners ("you missed a spot!") and the teaser ends.

The teaser looks great. The effects are top-notch, the costume looks very solid and the idea of seeing things through a window washer's perspective is clever, and something Marvel might do. But according to the men up high, it's a fake. ComicBook.com reports that Joss Whedon himself claims the teaser's not a part of Age of Ultron (and he'd know, considering he's Age of Ultron's director).

Earlier, Avengers: Age of Ultron made the news by becoming one of the first Marvel films to not have a post-credits scene. Considering that some post-credits scenes have been gigantic water cooler moments and incredible scenes (Thanos being introduced in The Avengers, Howard the Duck in Guardians of the Galaxy), it's a bit of a surprise. And also a clue this Spider-Man scene could be fake.

Unless it's real... it's extremely possible that this may all be a Marvel fakeout, and that they're trying to cover for everyone else and keep the ending a surprise when people see it in theaters. It's worth noting, after all, that the supposedly fake teaser is extremely well-made. As well, Stan Lee recently came out in support of Andrew Garfield, who will no longer be playing Peter Parker after Marvel Studios took over the franchise. Unless it's all a fake-out, in which case Lee may be secretly jockeying for an actor to stay on, like Garfield.

The Spider-Man reboot premieres in theaters on July 28, 2017.
