Doug Belgrad, one of the film producers from Columbia Pictures previously announced that they are working on the remake of the blockbuster hit, "Jumanji."

In Belgrad's interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said that the idea of the new film adaptation is to "try and reimagine 'Jumanji' and update it for the present."

According to reports, Matt Tolmach and Bill Teitler will be producing the new movie while Zack Helm will be writing it.

Meanwhile, the studio has not announced any casting details.

The original "Jumanji," released in 1995, was based on Chris Van Allsburg's illustrated children's game board book with the same name and was published in 1981. The book has a simple premise: when children start to play the jungle-themed mysterious board game, hijinks and adventure await them.

In the film adaptation, the story was about an adult who was trapped inside the enchanted board game where a different world exists.

The movie was directed by Joe Johnston, who also directed "Jurassic Park III" and "Captain America." "Jumanji" grossed $263 million in the box office. The success of the movie, which starred the then young Kirsten Dunst and the late Robin Williams, paved the way to a spinoff of the board game and an animated series.

There are speculations that the death of original "Jumanji" cast member, Robin Williams, might affect the upcoming movie adaptation, while there are rumors that the production might not push through. However, Columbia Pictures has not said anything about this.

Moreover, there are rumors that Scottish actress Karen Gillan will be part of the new "Jumanji" cast. The "Guardians of the Galaxy" star's Twitter post hinted that she will be involved in the movie. The actress posted an image of the famous board game. The photo came with the caption, "Things are really happening for me."
