The future of the "Transformers" franchise was put in jeopardy when key people involved in the film have expressed their departure from the series. With Michael Bay and Mark Wahlberg out of the fifth "Transformers" movie, fans are speculating about possible plot changes, cameos, and storylines.

Michael Bay is officially out of the franchise as the long-time director allegedly does not have the time or energy for "Transformers 5." However, Bay's stepping down could be a good thing for the series, says InquisitrBay's seat will have to be filled up by someone soon, and Inquisitr is listing Guillermo del Toro and Shawn Levy as possible replacements. Levy is behind "Real Steel" featuring Hugh Jackman, while del Toro  is known for "Pacific Rim," "Hellboy," and "Blade 2."

While Bay's exit could mean good for the franchise, Walhberg, who has since refused to do sequels, may not benefit "Transformers," says Inquisitr. With Walhberg gone, there is the question of who will continue the next franchise. Some pundits are looking at the original actors from the earlier movies, Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. Latinos Post has said that LaBeouf might not be asked to come back to the franchise considering his recent trouble with the law and his "stints with the media."

Fashion & Style said, "Without Bay at the helm, producers may want a familiar face to standout amongst the new cast and Fox has previously expressed a desire to make a comeback."

Should Fox land a lead role in "Transformers" again, it could also revive her career, continues the article. Unfortunately, her contract for "Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles" might hinder her from returning to the film, as she is expected to do a  sequel considering the success of the film adaptation of the hit television series.

Meanwhile, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is optimistic about the future of the franchise and has said that they are currently working on a script for the sequel. If they're looking for plot ideas, Fashion & Style is suggesting that the new director could turn to the animated films for inspiration.
