Labor Day 2025 falls on Monday, September 1, and while schools, banks, post offices, and the stock market will be closed, many major retailers and grocery stores will keep their doors open for shoppers.

For those planning last-minute errands, Walmart, Target, and most supermarket chains will be available, though some stores will run on modified schedules.

Walmart confirmed that all of its stores will be open on Labor Day. Most locations will follow regular hours, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., giving customers plenty of time to grab essentials or shop holiday deals, Today said.

A company spokesperson reminded shoppers to check their local store's website for any updates before heading out.

Target is also welcoming customers on the holiday. Stores are expected to operate during their normal hours, though pharmacy counters inside may close earlier depending on location.

Other big-box retailers, including Home Depot, Lowe's, Macy's, Kohl's, Nordstrom, and JCPenney, will remain open as well. Some are even promoting sales on appliances, electronics, and back-to-school items.

Grocery shoppers have a wide range of options, too. Stores under the Kroger family—including Ralphs, King Soopers, Fred Meyer, and others—will be open.

Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Aldi, Publix, Meijer, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Wegmans, Lidl, and Sprouts Farmers Market are all keeping their doors open.

Most will run standard hours, but Aldi and some regional chains may shorten schedules, so checking ahead is recommended.

According to USA Today, Sam's Club members will see adjusted hours: Plus members can shop from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., while Club members have access from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Costco, however, will close all of its warehouses for the day, continuing its tradition of giving employees the holiday off.

For those who enjoy browsing specialty shops, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, HomeGoods, Burlington, IKEA, REI, and Barnes & Noble will be open, though hours vary.

PetSmart and Petco locations will welcome customers between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., and Tractor Supply Company stores are set for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
