'The Strangers 2' is scheduled for release on December 2016 under Relativity Media's post-bankruptcy roster. It joins the line-up of new films including 'Kidnap', 'Before I Wake' and 'The Disappointments Room'. Bryan Bertino returns to write the script for the sequel while Laurent Briet is set to direct.

According to IGN, the new horror sequel to 2008's film of the same name is scheduled to premiere in theaters next year on December 2. The follow-up joins Relativity Media's post-bankruptcy roster that includes 'The Disappointments Room' starring Kate Beckinsale on March 25, 'Before I Wake' with Kate Bosworth on April 8, 'Kidnap' with Halle Berry on May 13 and 'Masterminds' with Kristen Wiig on September 30.

The newly announced line-up come after Relativity's restructuring after its announcement for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the company filed for a reorganization plan and is currently waiting for approval. In the meantime, Relativity plans to release seven films in the upcoming months with funding from a new revolving credit policy.

It was reported that Marcel Langenegger of 'Deception' fame was attached to direct the follow-up film from a script by Ben Ketai but now other reports say Laurent Briet will be helming it instead. It is unclear whether Langenegger is still involved in the upcoming project.

It was posted on Coming Soon that 'The Strangers 2' is moving forward with Laurent Briet slated to direct. The first film's director Bryan Bertino will also be returning to write the new script. The new film's story line is said to follow a family taking a trip to a trailer park ran by a relative before sending their troubled teenager off to boarding school.

'The Strangers 2' is an upcoming film intended as a sequel to 2008's horror flick of the same name. Its predecessor starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a young couple terrorized by a trio of masked goons who break into their summer home. It earned $82 million against a $9 million budget and received mixed reviews from critics.
