'XXX 3' is an upcoming action-thriller film intended as a follow up to 2002's 'XXX' and 2005's 'XXX: State of the Union'. It will feature the return of Vin Diesel as Xander Cage and is set to begin principal photography on December. The film, revealed to be "action of the highest order", will be a cross between extreme sports and the spy-action genre.

According to Instinct Magazine, Vin Diesel recently expressed his enthusiasm over returning as Xander Cage in a new image shared on his Instagram account. The photograph showed a topless and tattoed Diesel and was captioned, "Hands down one of the most fun characters I've played is Xander... Stunts are intense and call for rigorous training but the execution is just FUN!" His character first debuted in 2002 with the first film in the series directed by Rob Cohen.

Another article from Entertainment Weekly reported that the 48-year old actor also took to Facebook to announce his return to the series saying that the third film will be an "action of the highest order". He said, "I'm lucky this Sunday because this weekend I was blessed with three great new scripts. In 'XXX' there is this extreme sports take on the spy genre... One of the great things about this script is how much fun it is. But Xander Cage is a character that just truly has fun." 

Xander Cage was introduced as a notorious extreme sports enthusiast, stuntman and spy for the National Security Agency. In the 2002 film, he was sent on a mission to infiltrate a group of Russian terrorists. Diesel did not return as Xander in the 2005 follow-up 'XXX: State of the Union' due to scheduling conflicts with another film 'The Pacifier'.

Meanwhile, it was previously reported that Diesel inadvertently revealed the working title for 'XXX 3' as 'XXX: The Return of Xander'. It remains unknown whether this title has been adapted officially or just a casual reference by Diesel. According to Comic Book, he also announced that filming will begin in December in the Philippines.
