Originally schedule to be released on 2014, 'Avatar2' was then moved to a 2016 release and until recently, the premiere has once again been moved and sequel is now slated for a 2017 release according to a report by Christian Today. The report states that the delay is most likely due to the new technology that James Cameron is developing for the sequel.

Franchise Herald has shed some further light about the delay. Apparently, aside from the software and graphics tools that Cameron is developing with Weta Digital in New Zealand,  he and his team is doing pre-production for all three sequels. In the report, James Cameron says, "We're writing three simultaneously. And we've done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. Were' not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that and parallel with that, we're doing all the design. So we've designed all the creatures and the environments."

This means fans should expect shorter intervals between the next sequels. This also means that the next movies will definitely top the first one in terms of graphics and visual effects.

In a separate interview, Cameron revealed that fans will be brought to the oceans of Pandora and they are currently developing an ocean ecosystem with the team back in New Zealand. According to the director, the idea is a bit like the floating islands in the first movie.  If this is the case, then a possible plot spoiler would be seafaring Na'vi and perhaps other cultures, just like humans having different cultures depending on geographic location.

Speaking of plot spoilers, actress Zoe Saldana revealed in an interview that the plot is a bit emotional. She said when Cameron talks about the plot, he gets emotional and she gets emotional as well.

Movie News Guide revealed some interesting spoilers that correlate what Saldana said. In the said report, Sam Worthington's Jake Sully and Saldana's Neytiri will be apart from each other. Also, a huge battle is going to unfold between humans and the Na'vi in relation to a darker plot which may pull the lovers away from each other.

Hopefully, this will be the last push back of the premiere. In 2009, 'Avatar' broke all time box office records. Everyone is hoping to have another awesome experience in the cinemas as 'Avatar 2' premiered on December 25, 2017.
