Users have reported that the Google Nexus 6P has bending and cracking issues due to its structural design flaws. Google and Huawei are said to be working to solve these design issues.

The Google Huawei Nexus 6P's bending problems were demonstrated in a viral video as per a report by BGR. YouTube user JerryRigEverything did a bend test on a brand new Nexus 6P and showed how the phone easily bent with minimal force. There was a follow up video in which the design flaws of the Nexus 6P were identified.

According to JerryRigEverything, the Google Huawei Nexus 6P has three design flaws. First, the aluminum midframe and the back housing of the phone are not firmly attached together with screws. It is only joined by a very thin piece of glass on top of the Nexus 6P.

Second, the side walls of the Nexus 6P are too thin. This design flaw is related to the first. "If the aluminum back and mid-frame were solidly screwed together, the thinness wouldn't be an issue. But since the mid-frame freely floats right out of the rear frame when it's bending, the side walls of the rear frame become super worthless," said the YouTube user in the video.

Third, the weakest point of the phone is in the power button where the battery and motherboard are joined by a weak piece of aluminum. JerryRigEveything said that this is the perfect bending point of the device.

The Inquirer reported that users have experienced cracking issues as well with the Huawei Nexus 6P. A Reddit user wrote, "Two days after I received the 6P, I was in an airplane. As the plane began to land, I tucked the phone slightly under my thigh. After we landed, I pulled it out and a long crack going diagonally across the front appeared." The glass coating of the screen and the glass covering the camera at the back of the device seem to crack too easily.

This is similar to the problem encountered by users of the Nexus 4 in 2012. Google said that the back of the phone cracks because it cannot "handle sudden changes in temperature."

JerryRigEverything said that although the Google Nexus 6P bends, it does not mean that the phone's features are not good. PC Advisor reported that the Google Huawei Nexus 6P comes pre-installed with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, a fingerprint sensor called Nexus Imprint, and a USB Type-C port. It has a back-facing camera that supports slow-motion mode and 4K video recording. Under the hood, it is powered by a Snapdragon 810 chip and 3GB of RAM.

It was reported that Google was "quick to pass the complaint on to Huawei" while a user said that Huawei immediately took action to replace the phone. Hopefully, the two companies will work together to fix the design flaws of the Nexus 6P.
