Valve founder Gabe Newell finally spoke as speculations and hasty conclusions arise among fans longing and yearning for the release of a Half Life 3. Such hysteria was amplified when a strange file existed with DOTA 2's regular update which was allegedly hinting Half Life 3. Adding fuel to the rumor is the all new Gabe Newell Simulator game by Valve.

An unknown text file surprisingly appeared to users of DOTA 2 as part of its regular updates which revealed a rather mysterious update file. Fans start to be suspicious as they receive such file saved in the name of hl3.txt. Some speculate that the "hl3" stands for Half-Life 3, Yibada reports. Despite the unconfirmed rumors, fan community theorizes on three speculations: that developers want to impose awareness that the game is pending development; that such is a product of an inside joke; or that such just an accidental upload.

On the other hand, a new game called Gabe Newell Simulator, developed by Antonio Renna, tends to give Half Life fans the chance to release Half Life 3; in a fictitious way, however. According to Ecumenical News, the game is a third-person shooter featuring co-founder Gabe "Gaben" Newell as the protagonist. Developer Renna writes in the official Steam page that the simulator is for those who always dreamed of being the game master Gaben. One may also be able to impersonate Newell, compete against other companies and decide whether to release Half Life 3 or not, and such decisions would have drastic consequences in the game universe.

To settle things once and for all, Valve founder Gabe Newell finally released a statement about Half Life 3. Though he did not said much, he admitted having been surprised by the huge anticipation for the much awaited game. According to him, the game is not yet in development right now and will not be coming anytime soon. Daily Sun Knox Ville tells that his ten-year silence regarding Half Life 3 have angered the fans; and while right now, he announced that no such game has been in development yet, at least it was some news regarding Half Life 3 and that the game is still inevitable.

The existence of Gabe Newell Simulator, and much more the mysterious text file in DOTA 2, does not however confirm nor deny the possible development of Half Life 3. What the fans have at present is the official statement of Newell himself.
