'Trainspotting 2' director Danny Boyle promised that his long-awaited sequel will not disappoint and that it will live up to high expectations. He confirmed that his original cast members will return including Ewan McGregor who will reprise his role as the iconic Mark "Rent Boy" Renton.

According to Huffington Post, Boyle will return to helm the follow-up of his 1996 pop culture hit of the same name. He said, "We're going to do a sequel, and we've got a script by John Hodge, which is very good, actually, and we wouldn't have gotten the four actors back if it hadn't been, because they're all very nervous about disappointing people." The director admitted that his cast and crew seek to honor the first film's critically-acclaimed legacy.

He admitted that it will not be a "cheap cash-in" since everyone involved has a strong affinity towards the project. Its predecessor explored the implications of drug addiction as well as several other controversial themes including urban poverty. It was inspired by Irvine Welsh's novel of the same name published in 1993.

An article by Moviepilot confirmed the return of original stars Ewan McGregor as Rent Boy Renton, Robert Carlyle as Francis "Franco" Begbie, Jonny Lee Miller as Simon "Sick Boy" Williamson, and Ewen Bremner as Daniel "Spud" Murphy. The original film followed the lives of the four boys as a group of heroin addicts in an impoverished area in Edinburgh in the 1980's. It was also confirmed that Boyle hopes to begin shooting the sequel sometime in May or June 2016.

According to The Daily Mail, Boyle admitted that he will be doing the project for a proposed budget of under $20 million. He explained that by doing this, he is secured full creative control over 'Trainspotting 2'. He said that they could always raise more funds for the sequel but chose not to.

The original film earned £48,000,000 ($72 million) against a £1,550,000 budget, according to Box Office Mojo. It received almost universal praise in Britain yet sparked some controversy in other countries such as Australia and the United States. However, it garnered an Academy Award nomination for best adapted screenplay as well as three other nominations for the 1996 British Academy Film Awards.

'Trainspotting 2' is a planned follow-up of the black comedy and crime drama first released in the U.K. and Ireland on February 23, 1996. Danny Boyle is slated to return as director. The upcoming film's plot will reportedly be based on Irvine Welsh's novel 'Porno'.
