A comparison between Microsoft Lumia 950 XL and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus reveals the Lumia 950 XL as a possible alternative to Android phones. The Lumia 950 XL is Microsoft's player in the phablet market that has Windows 10 OS and a unique security feature called Windows Hello.

Indian Express compared Microsoft Lumia 950 XL and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus in a report. Below is the specs and features evaluation for the two devices:

1.       Display and Dimension

Both devices have a 5.7" screen with the Edge Plus having a WQHD Super AMOLED display while the Lumia 950 XL has a WQHD AMOLED panels. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus display has curved edges while Microsoft's phone screen has additional treats like orientation sensor and sunlight readability enhancements

2.       Processor

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL runs on Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor while the Edge Plus carries Samsung's in-house Exynos7420 octa-core chipset. The Snapdragon 810 has a problematic reputation for overheating but Microsoft plans to tackle that issue with the use of liquid cooling technology.

3.       RAM and Storage

The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has a higher 4GB RAM than that of Lumia 950 XL's 3GB RAM. However, the Lumia 950 XL compensates with 32GB storage expandable to 200GB via microSD, whereas the Edge Plus comes with only 32GB internal memory.

4.       Camera

The Lumia 950 XL dons a 20MP rear camera and a 5M wide angle front snapper. On the other hand, the S6 Edge Plus has a 16MP main shooter and a 5MP selfie camera.  

5.       Battery

The S6 Edge Plus packs a 3000 mAh battery while the Lumia 950 XL carries a 3340 mAh power supply.

6.       Connectivity

Both devices offer NFC and LTE connections. Lumia 950 XL can carry two SIM cards.

7.       OS and Fingerprint Sensor

The Lumia 950 XL will reportedly run on Windows 10 OS. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus operates on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. The Edge Plus has a fingerprint sensor feature that is absent in the Lumia 950 XL.

According to a report by Android Authority, the Lumia 950 XL's edge from its Android rivals is that it runs on Windows 10 and has a unique biometric security system known as Windows Hello. This functionality gives users the ability to unlock their phones just by looking at them.

CNET reported that the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL caters to consumers who want a big-sized phone. It will supposedly cost $649 in the US.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL has a simple and user-friendly interface. It may not have all Android apps but it has most of them, making it a possible alternative to Android phones.
