There have been no announced plans for Nintendo to adapt any of its iconic game characters to the silver screen. However, the possibilities of a 'Super Mario' film and a 'Legend of Zelda' movie has skyrocketed. In a recent interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, creator the two well-loved game franchises and Takashi Tezuka, designer and director of these games, they discussed what their idea of 'Super Mario' and 'Legend of Zelda' movies will be like.

In an interview with MTV, Miyamoto has expressed his preference for "someone completely new" playing Link if 'Legend of Zelda' is made into a movie. Speaking about the Japanese show business, Miyamoto sees the same actors so he want to go beyond the locale, and added that Link looks different from a Japanese person. Tezuka commented that he has no one particular in mind, but he'd love to see Link be played by a female actress who can be boyish.

As for the Mario brothers, should there be a reboot, Tezuka and Miyamoto both agreed that Mario and Luigi must be played by twins, or at the very least, siblings, even if they do not look alike. This is in reference to the 1993 live action adaptation of the 'Super Mario' game. As reported by The Independent, Tezuka also says that they should "not be chubby" since they are doing a lot of running.

While these are just their personal preferences, a 'Legend of Zelda' movie and 'Super Mario' reboot may not be impossible after all. As Game and Guide quoted, Miyamoto has explained that Nintendo is an entertainment company and thus seeking ways to develop outside of video games and not be limited. While they are aware of the challenge of licensing the characters for adaptations, they have always thought it is a great opportunity.

Nintendo has nothing in the immediate works but they are definitely interested and open to doing it. Miyamoto ended the interview answering the question whether they are doing a feature length film with "secret." Meanwhile, fans have raised their hopes for a female Link for the potential 'Legend of Zelda' movie. Fan's speculative castings has already been the talk of many, citing Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson and Keira Knightley, to name a few.
