Even if CBS has made no official announcement that Person of Interest will end after Season 5, actor Michael Emerson and EP Greg Plageman revealed that they are treating the current season which premiered on September 1 as if it is really their last.

In an interview with SpoilerTV, Emerson revealed that Season 5 will have a finale feeling to it. "I feel like we kind of wrap things up every season," said Emerson. "And so I think we'll kind of continue in that same vein, maybe with a hint more finale feeling".

In an exclusive telephone interview with Collider, Emerson says that it really felt that the show is coming to an end after CBS ordered only 13 episodes in the coming season. "It's a problem for the writers because they have to write what will be an ending and a finale, but it has to have a little bit of a back door built into it. It has to be a little bit ambiguous, on some level, so that the story could continue, if necessary."

Plageman meanwhile explained that their creative team knows how the series would end and that they may have to compress the story into 13 episodes to deliver the ending that they want.

He went on to add that the show-runners are open to continuing the show through multiple TV movies or even comic books similar to what Smallville has done for its Season 11 once the television series ends.

Meanwhile, Reality Today reports that Sarah Shahi who portrays Dr. Sameen Shaw in the series will be back for eight or nine episodes in Season 5. She temporarily left the show for maternity leave. Keith Martin was also signed on to play the character of Terence Beale, described as a cunning CIA supervisory agent.

The storyline for Season 5 will show Harold Finch, John Reese and Samantha "Root"Groves take over Samaritan and how the Machine will be brought to life.

Person of Interest will return mid-season in 2016 on CBS. Syndication of the show started on September 1 on the WGN Network.
