Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA Release to Sprint’s Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Now Live!

The 5.1.1 version of the Android Lollipop is finally rolling out to Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime devices under Sprint in Northern American region. The update comes via official over-the-air download or Samsung KIES.

Major mobile carrier Sprint has begun releasing its Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime variants in the United States and Canada. The original variant which has model codes SM-G530P, SM-G530W and SM-531HVE are the only qualified Galaxy Grand Primes as of now, but the update is expected to roll out to variants with codes SM-G530F and SM-G530BT which are also up for Android 5.0.2 Lollipop for now.

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is weighs 590 MB only and the entire package is at 970 MB. The new Lollipop software version brings improvements in touch interface with Material Design, new lock screen, better notification panel, and several bug fixes.

When the update comes over-the-air, just tap "install now" and follow onscreen instructions. Whenever device has not been notified until now, head over to Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check for update. Then follow onscreen instructions. After the update, the firmware version should now be G530WVLU1AOF9.

Verizon Wireless is the first carrier to update their Galaxy Grand Prime with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. For those who are eager to experience Lollipop improvements, a custom ROM from Odin is made available already for download.

Here's a quick rundown to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop's new features and improvements:

  • Material Design. Android's latest user interface is made better with more fluid shadows, vibrant animations, varied font styles and colors. The UI gives device a cleaner minimalist design.
  • Security Improvements. Android has been surrounded with different threats and vulnerabilities. With Lollipop, security is strengthened to counter privacy issues when device is stolen or lost. Anti-malware and Smart Lock helps secure information when sharing it to trusted devices.
  • Device Switch. Using the near-field communication (NFC), switch one device to another is made more convenient by setting up the same format for apps, wallpaper and screen layout. It also takes notes of Settings for Wi-Fi and location.
  • Device Sync. With the new Lollipop, syncing device to TV, watches, cars and other devices is made possible. This comes with browsing ability. Listen and watch also from one device and continue to another where one left off through a Google account.
