"Pacific Rim 2" director Guillermo del Toro says he wants Godzilla to appear in the third installment of the sci-fi monster-action franchise. The sequel to the 2013 film is scheduled to open on August 2017.

With giant monsters fighting enormous mechanical warriors, there is no doubt that Warner Bros' upcoming "Pacific Rim: Maelstorm" is going to be massive. But it seems that director Guillermo del Toro wants the franchise to get even bigger. The 50-year-old filmmaker apparently wants to add one more notable monster on the same screen with the Jaegers - none other than Godzilla. "I would love to see a jaeger and Godzilla duke it out," he told Movie Pilot. "That would be too much for the human brain."

Now before the fans get too excited, this is not a confirmation that the King of Monsters is indeed making an appearance in "Pacific Rim 3". However, the director's interesting idea is not impossible at all. According to io9, Gareth Edwards' 2014 "Godzilla" reboot and del Toro's "Pacific Rim" film series are both distributed by Legendary Pictures, so there is a possibility that the concept could be executed. Also, with Godzilla's monstrous nature of fighting everything, his inclusion in the sci-fi flick is not out of the character for the franchise.

While there is still no confirmation about this potential crossover for now, the fans can temporarily fill their appetites when "Pacific Rim: Maelstorm" and "Godzilla 2" hit theaters soon. As per Cinema Blend, the former will see how the world copes after the Kaijus' previous attack, and will answer questions like what becomes of the Jaegars? And what would they do now that the monsters are no longer looming threats?

Starring the surviving cast from the first film that includes Charlie Hunnam ("Sons of Anarchy") and Rinku Kikuchi ("Babel"), "Pacific Rim 2" is slated to hit the big screen on August 4, 2017 hopefully with the legendary Godzilla in it. As for Edwards' "Godzilla 2", it will debut on June 8, 2018.
