Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Update Guide for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 & Galaxy Note 2 Coming Very Soon

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 2 are now bound for the official over-the-air release of the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software update before Marshmallow or Android 6.0 gets into the lengths and breadths of mobile phone industry. While its official rollout date has not been market out yet, many custom ROMs are being created by varied developer communities to get a taste of what the final Lollipop update has to offer.

As the month of September opens, different custom ROM developers have brought the Lollipop stage for Samsung Galaxy devices including the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 2. Custom ROMs up for grabs are Resurrection Remix, EuphoriaOS, Pacman and CyanogenMod 12.1, among others.

These ROMs usually weigh around 217 MB only bringing several new features and system and battery performance optimization based on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

For Resurrection Remix, it features the following:

  • Dark material theme
  • Quick smart pull-down
  • Lockscreen shortcuts
  • Quick unlock
  • Toast animations
  • Changeable clock color
  • Weather display on status bar
  • Network traffic monitor

For Pacman, it features the following:

  • Privacy guard
  • Slim pie control options
  • Advanced keyboard options
  • Halo
  • Battery indicator
  • Omniswitch
  • Gesture anywhere
  • PAC performance
  • AOKP weather options
  • PAC console
  • Listview and toast animation options
  • Navigation bar customizations

For crdroid, it features the following:

  • Slim pie control options
  • Omni ambient display feature
  • New head up notification feature
  • Superuser indicator
  • Power menu and notification tiles
  • Adblocker

EuphoriaOS meanwhile features a smarter and stable performance.

Users are advised to make sure the models of the devices are fit to qualifications since proceeding to installation process might brick unqualified ones. Do not forget to charge up the battery to at least 80 percent. Ensure the USB driver is installed on your PC. Also, back up all necessary data since the installation will wipe out all the data.

To go on with the installation, here's a good way to go:

1.       Download custom ROM into PC.

2.       Plug the device to PC using the USB cable.

3.       Copy the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop zip file and Google Apps zip file into the SC card.

4.       Shut down the device.

5.       Remove it from PC.

6.       Press hold volume +, home and power buttons simultaneously.

7.       Clear phone memory by tapping 'wipe data/factory reset.'

8.       Clear the cache memory by tapping 'wipe cache partition.'

9.       Go to ClockworkMod.

10.    Select 'advanced.'

11.    Tap 'wipe dalvik cache.'

12.    Go to main recovery screen.

13.    Tap 'install zip from SD card.'

14.    Tap 'choose zip from SD card.

15.    Go to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop ROM zip file.

16.    Start installing.

17.    Repeat process for Google Apps.

18.    Restart device.

Check the installation's success on Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check for updates.
