It was a total surprise for the gaming community when Nintendo announced that they will release a new game console, the Nintendo NX, in 2016. After Nintendo's success on Wii, the Japan-based company thought it will duplicate its success through Wii U but Sony's PlayStation and Microsoft's Xbox took up where Nintendo left off.

According to Digital Trends, the late Satoru Iwata talked about NX's development during the March 2015 press conference but did not divulge any additional information about the venture. The press conference was more into the mobile game licensing deal with DeNA.

The other information that the late Iwata discussed, about NX, is that it will be a dedicated game platform with a brand new concept. He also promised to give more details in 2016, but everything remained in balance since his untimely demise.

Tech Radar, on the other hand, cited that the Japanese legendary game maker Square Enix announced that they will have two entries of its Dragon Quest series that might head to the Nintendo NX next year.

The tech website also noted, based from what they have currently, that possibly the NX won't run on Android and the Dragon Quest XI might be NX's first game. In addition, Tech Radar also divulged that the NX will have a new control method, which might take inspiration to Wii U's touch screen controllers.

Nintendo is known to break away from the common scenarios like what PlayStation and Xbox are doing with each other since time immemorial. The Wii's success was attributed to its unique concept which veered away from the usual console game designs, PC Advisor pointed out.

That being said, the Nintendo NX is expected not to follow either Sony or Microsoft's lead with regards to game console development. Rumors on July 2016 launching of Nintendo NX is deemed by the said site to be not happening since the development period from the time it was discussed by Iwata in March until July next year is extremely short.

The Nintendo NX console is claimed to be formally released by late 2016 or early 2017.
