"Breaking Bad" actor Aaron Paul may be the successor of Harrison Ford's Millenium Falcon Captain in the upcoming "Han Solo" standalone film. The "Star Wars 7" spinoff will be helmed by "The Lego Movie" directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, and will premiere on 2018.

After Disney has confirmed that one of the upcoming "Star Wars 7" spinoff movies will be about Han Solo, a lot of speculations regarding its lead actor have immediately surfaced. While the fans have named a number of potential portrayers, the 35-year-old actor Aaron Paul has reportedly bagged the leading spot. According to the Guardian, the "Breaking Bad" star has become the bookies' favorite, beating Taylor Kitsch ("John Carter") and Chris Pratt ("Jurassic World"), as well as the younger competitors Ansel Elgort ("Divergent"), Taron Egerton ("Kingsmen"), and  Nicholas Hoult ("X-Men: First Class").

Franchise Herald reports that the upcoming movie will focus on Han Solo's younger years, specifically his background on becoming a smuggler, thief and scoundrel -whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi encountered in the catina at Mos Eisley. It will be helmed by directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, who are best known for their works in the 2009 animated flick "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs", 2014 "The Lego Movie" and the hit action-comedy "Jump Street" franchise.

Oscar-nominated writer Lawrence Kasdan will be writing the screenplay, along with his son Jon Kasdan . Lawrence wrote the scripts for both "Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back" and "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi". According to Digital Trends, he is also part of the writing team (along with director J.J. Abrams) on the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens".

The pair has already expressed their excitement in collaborating with the newly announced directors, saying "They're two of the smartest, funniest and most original filmmakers around, and the ideal choice to tell the story of Han Solo, one of the coolest characters in the galaxy."

There is no announcement yet regarding the commencement of its production but the Mouse House has set the "Han Solo" standalone film for a May 25, 2018 release.
