"New Girl" season 5 will welcome its fans with Schmidt and Cece's engagement party. But as most engaged couples experience while planning their wedding, there will be road bumps awaiting the two. The new season will also open without its female lead, Jess, as Zooey Deschanel is still in maternity leave.

Fans of Schmidt and Cece will be delighted when "New Girl season 5" opener premieres as it will see their engagement party, reports US Weekly. Max Greenfield confirmed the news and adds that Cece's (Hannah Simone) mother will pay them a visit but won't be too sure of her daughter's fiancé.

"We're not quite sure if she approves of Schmidt or not. There's definitely going to be some road bumps on our way to actually having a wedding," said Greenfield.

Hannah Simone expressed her excitement over this new chapter in Schmidt and Cece's lives since it will open doors for character development.

"I think what's really great is that so much of Cece's and Schmidt's characters on the show have been part of this will they, won't they," said Simone. "And now that they're together we can start exploring their family and their personal history and who they are as individuals."

However, fans of the "Girl" of the show, Zooey Deschanel will not be seeing the actress on the fifth season's first episode since she is currently on maternal leave, according to TVLine.

"New Girl" creator Liz Meriwether dishes that season 5's opener will be titled "No Girl" due to the absence of its beloved female lead.

"I think in the first or second season, it would have been hard, but now it feels like this is a creative opportunity to learn more about the other characters," said Meriwether to The Hollywood Reporter.

Despite Zooey Deschanel's absence, "New Girl" season 5 will definitely have an exciting opener as it will see Schmidt and Cece's engagement party when it returns on Fox this fall.
