After turning down the chance to direct a more traditional "Ghostbusters 3" for an all-female reboot, "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig has received a lot of undesirable reactions most especially from the series' diehard fans. Despite these disparagements, the director chose to stay firm with his decision and confident that his lead actresses Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones will be able to pull it off.

In an exclusive interview with Empire Podcast, Paul Feig expressed his excitement towards the forthcoming reboot. "Those four ladies I have starring in it are so funny and that's half the battle. I'm going to battle with the best army I have," he said.  "My whole crew from all my other movies have come aboard, and some great special effects people have come aboard ..."

The 52-year-old director's might be denoting his so-called "battle" against those who ridiculed his decision to detour the third installment to a new approach instead of making the same old all-male version.  Franchise Herald has noted that Feig was surprised after he excitedly announced the reboot a few months back.

"The first wave when you make an announcement like that is overwhelmingly positive. Everyone's so happy and you're like, 'This is great,'" he told Variety. "Then comes the second wave and you're like, 'Oh my God. Some of the most vile, misogynistic sh** I've ever seen in my life.'"

Feig tried to make the "Ghostbusters" fans understand better why he chose to make a reboot instead of a sequel. "A lot of people are mad because it's a reboot. But I don't know how to do it any other way, because it's been 25 years since the last one," the filmmaker told Empire.

"Harold has gone, Bill doesn't want to do it, and I love Dan and Ernie, but people had written those scripts and they were fine, but it felt sweaty to me, it felt like a wheel was off the cart. I thought, 'Why don't we go into this and reinvent it so we can go into a world that doesn't have ghosts?'" the "Spy" director added.

It is noted that Feig's expertise is centered in comedies involving women like his previous films "Bridesmaids", "The Heat" and the recently released "Spy" who also stars Melissa McCarthy. With this, there really is a great chance that his all-female reboot of "Ghostbusters" will be as successful as its male version.

"It's always a risk, but every movie you make is a risk," he said. "This one just happens to be one that's toying with everyone's childhoods!"

"Ghostbusters 3" is set to start its production in Boston a few weeks from now and is scheduled to hit theaters July 22, 2016.
