An iPod Touch 6th Generation that fuses iPod Touch features with some iPhone specs to create more than just a music player may be released at the WorldWide Developers Conference in June.

The new iPod Touch will reportedly be a fully-loaded entertainment device carrying features of the widely-popular iPhone 6 such as the Touch ID fingerprint sensor and digital assistant Siri. Expectations are also pointing to an A9 processor and an iOS 9. Two size variants will be released, a 4.7-inch screen and a 5.5-inch display size.

Other reports indicate the iPod storage can also be upgraded from the current 16, 32, and 64 gigabytes to the higher-capacity 128 gigabytes of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

More predictions point to a new iPod touch 6th Generation player carrying an 8MP camera and waterproofing. The new iPod designs are said to come in red, orange, yellow, pink, and green, space gray, silver, white and gold versions.

Apple watchers started talking about the next generation of the iPod when Apple slashed prices of the iPod Touch 5th Generation in October 2014.

Predictions for a 6th Generation music player was further fuelled by Apple's acquisition of the popular headphone maker Beats for $3 billion last year.

Reports say the next iPod Touch may be carrying features of the popular iPhone 6S following the Apple move to update the current iPod Touch with the A5 chip of the iPhone 4S released in 2012.

Apple has also reportedly noted a decline in iPod sales due to the emergence of smartphones that can already double up as music and gaming players.

Users of the iPod Touch are however still widespread because of the device's portability compared to the iPad mini. The fact that the popular iPhone 6 comes bundled with monthly plans is also seen as a deterrent for users who only need a device for music, videos, and gaming. Apple watchers have noted too that current users of the iPod Touch want a better display, a better camera, and a faster processor.

The iPod Touch 6th Generation player is expected to fetch a $250 price tag.
